Understanding the Criminal Justice System in the ACT

This section is for people who have had a crime committed against them, or know somebody who has. You are not alone as many people have experienced crime in one way or another.

You may have experienced a crime directly. It may have been a personal crime such as assault or armed robbery or it may have been a property crime like burglary or theft of a motor vehicle.

This section aims to give you simple but comprehensive information about crime, its impact, the different agencies involved in the administration of justice, your rights and sources of support and advice.

Below is a short animated video that explains the impact of crime and gives strategies for recovery. This video explains how your brain and body worked together at the time of the event, covers some of the feelings you may be experiencing, and has tips to help you in your recovery.

We would like to acknowledge the Victorian Western Region Health Centre for use of the video.
