Applying for Financial Assistance
The new financial assistance scheme commenced on 1 July 2016. All new applications for Victims of Crime Financial Assistance should be lodged with Victim Support ACT.

** From 1 July 2017 the Victims of Crime Commissioner is the decision maker for all new applications. As a result, there has been a significant increase in the number of applications received.
We are assessing applications as quickly as we can, however the increase in the number of assessments required means there will be long delays in assessing applications.

Legal Advice
You can apply for financial assistance without a lawyer, however if you would like some legal assistance to discuss your options you can contact Legal Aid ACT on 1300 654 314 or the ACT Law Society on 6274 0300.
Please note that the maximum amount a lawyer can charge you to assist you in applying for financial assistance is $1,123
The maximum amount that a lawyer can charge you to assist you with an appeal or review is $2 246
